EXPECTATIONS

There will be

  • A Lighting Theory Primer

    There will be just enough to steer you in the right direction,  without becoming too technical, to allow the focus to be on the smoke.

  • Hands on Experimentation

    You will see at least 4 distinct equipment solutions, that you can pickup and compare, to determine what may be right for your needs.

  • Tips for success

    Learn from the experiences of the host and others overcome common barriers and teething issues when first starting.

  • A Guided Environment

    Ideal to test, fail and refine techniques.

Not suitable for

  • Portfolio Building

    The focus will be on creating predictable and repeatable outcomes, that can be applied to future shoots.

  • Beginner Photographers

    You will be expected to know the basics of your camera menus, and know how shutter speed, aperture and ISO affect your image.

  • A Structured 'step by step' Formula

    Whilst there are some tried and true setups, this workshop will focus on equipping you with the knowledge and tools to transform a creative vision into reality, instead of a one and done approach.

  • Post Processing or Editing Techniques

    Smoke will be achieved with practical effects and ready straight out of camera. There is no requirement to for specialist editing software, plugins or advanced editing knowledge.

  • Heavily Theory Based Learning

    There will be some basic fundamentals explained for awareness, but you won't be expected to memorise the inverse square law or other theory focused topics.
